George HODSON was born about 1825 in Stapleford, Nottingham.7 He was christened on 18 Dec 1825 in Stapleford, Nottingham.8,9 In 1848 he was a Railway porter..10 Not found in 1841 census, unless as i) manservant at Farnsfield, Notts, b.abt 1828; or
ii) ag. lab. at Kirklington, Notts, b. abt 1825, but not 'in county'. Between 1851 and 1877 he was a Railway guard/conductor..11-13 He lived in Roman Road, Lower Holloway, Finsbury in 1871.3 In 1881 he was a Station master in Station Master's House, Edmonton.14 His housekeeper in 1881 was born in Boston, Lincolnshire, where he had lived in
1851.
A niece Ellen Hodson, who was living with him in 1881, was shown as born in Lowestoft in abt 1874, so possibly he retired there to live near his brother. (See further notes about this brother on parents' page).
In 1891 he was a Retired railway servant in 36 Alexandra Road, Lowestoft..4 National Archives' index has a document relating to the sale of his former house back to the railway in 1888. He died Jul-Sep 1892 in Mutford Dist. Suffolk (rec.
age 66).4 This district includes Lowestoft. George HODSON and Mary Ann NEWBORNE were married on 7 Mar 1848 in Ely St Mary parish church.10 Marriage was by banns. Witnesses were G. Henson and H. Newborn.
Couple appear to have separated between 1861 and 1871.
Daughter Caroline stayed with father, and Emily with mother. They lived in Duke Street, Boston, Lincolnshire in 1851.15
They lived in 20 Mark Street, Leeds in 1857.11 They lived in 61 William Street North, Islington in 1861.2
